CUDDINGTON & SANDIWAY WI by Elizabeth Brown

At May’s meeting of the Cuddington and Sandiway WI, President Jenny Friar outlined the resolution, ‘Failing to Care, the Assessment of need in Long Term Care’. This seeks to address the inequality in how needs are assessed which leads to vulnerable patients being denied access to NHS continuing care. Members voted to accept the resolution and this will be carried forward by the delegate to the AGM in the Albert Hall.

Afterwards the atmosphere was considerably lightened by the engaging presence of busker, Eric Newton. His life has been full of up and downs but always accompanied by his clarinet. This has been present on various jobs, including time on the road with a jazz band, photography, gardening, a degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, teaching and charity marathons. Then at a low point, helped by a mischievous telephone call, he went to Australia, found wonderful friends and now spends half the year there, busking in the sunshine. Eric’s talk was interspersed with jazz classics and he continued playing in the background nearly to the end of the meeting. He was warmly applauded.

President Jenny Friar asked for help with teas on the Village Gala Day, June 13. Centenary celebrations carry on through the summer with representative, Marian Harris, going to the Royal Garden Party on June 2.

Next meeting will be June 11. Please ring 01606 888446 for further information.
