CROWTON WI by Diana Evans

President Kathy Baldwin welcomed members to the May meeting of Crowton WI.

Plans for the Cheshire Show entries are progressing well. Two members are attending the special WI Centenary Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Other members are attending the Centenary Celebration at Gawsworth, and the Open Day at the Bishop of Chester’s House in July.

The Luncheon Club are going to The Leigh Arms on Thursday, May 28 and The Tweed Mill on May 19. Members are meeting at the village hall at 10am. There is also a Group Meeting at Frodsham Community Centre on the May 20 at 7.30pm. The speaker is Angela Oldham, ‘The Perfume Lady’.

Jane gave a summary of the resolution, which this year focuses on ‘failing to care’. The actual Resolution is ‘This meeting calls on HM government to remove the distinction between nursing care and personal care in the assessment of the needs of individuals, in order to advance health and wellbeing.’ Jane emphasised that there is inequality in how needs are assessed. There is a differentiation between social care and continuing care. An interesting discussion followed, and the vote will be taken to the AGM in London in June.

Denman draw ended the evening and this year the lucky winner was Frances Evans.

Our next meeting is on June 2 in Crowton Village Hall, the speaker is Ken Pye whose talk is ‘Curious People, Places and Tales of Merseyside’. Visitors and potential new members are always welcome.
