NORTHWICH PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY by David Boot

‘Southern Spain – away from the beaches’ was a good place to spend a wet evening in Northwich. courtesy of Northwich Photographic Society's guest speaker Ken Geddes LRPS.

The journey from Cadiz to Valencia was filled with interesting facts, beautiful photographs and the occasional hints on Spanish pronunciation.

Ruined castles, sumptuous palaces and highly gilded cathedrals and churches sped past one after another in the helter-skelter presentation of the ultimate geographical and historical extravaganza. Unbelievable bridges spanned perpendicular chasms as history was brought to life thanks to Ken’s enthralling narrative.

Tempting visits to flower, fruit, fish and vegetable markets were interspersed with strolls through narrow streets, along wide boulevards and into magnificent squares. Members also visited the graveyard where the coffins are placed horizontally into the cliff face as there is insufficient depth of soil.

The atmosphere of the evenings came to life with the vivid images of flamenco dancers and members cooled off in the sparkling mountain streams and cascading waterfalls before driving home through the pelting Cheshire rain.

Further information and programme of meetings is available at www.northwichphotographicsociety.co.uk. Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at the Castle Community Church (formerly the Methodist/United Reform Church), Beeston Street, Castle, Northwich 8pm-10pm.
