ONCE again students from the Junior Royal Northern College of Music provided an enthusiastic audience with an exceptional evening of music making at the February concert.

The performers ranged from 14 to 18 years. David Jones provided piano accompaniment where appropriate.

Xander Croft (violin) opened the concert with an Allemande by Bach, returning to give a stunning performance of the first movement from Mozart’s second violin concerto. He finished with a highly charge rendition Nigun by Bloch.

Nadia Plummer played Vivaldi’s bassoon concerto and Grovlev’s Sicilienne to great effect. To our surprise, she also sang arias by Gluck and Mozart and songs by Sullivan and McDowall. She has an astonishing stage presence.

The magical harp. It certainly was, in the hands of Alice Roberts, who entranced the audience with a Sonatina by Natra, Isle of Aigas, arranged by Rachel Hair, and pieces by Britten and Henson-Conant.

Imogen Parsley sang pieces by Purcell, Beswick and Bennett in the first half, with great delicacy and precision. On her return she captivated the audience with songs by Schubert, Mozart and Jerry Bock.

The next concert will be a piano recital given by James Willshire in the Drama Studio of Middlewich High School, which is on the junction of King Edward Street and St. Anne’s Walk, Middlewich, CW10 9BU, on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 7.30 pm.

Admission is £8.50 (concessions), payable at the door. For further details please visit the website madcs.org.uk or contact Roger Evans on 01606 834471.
