THE February meeting of the Welsh Society was an ever-popular quiz plus a selection of dingbats, set by Margaret Morris (Winsford). Margaret was thanked by the chairman Neil Evans (Winsford).

The winning team was Y Dreigiau Coch (The Red Dragons) Wynne Jones (Cuddington), Gwen White (Davenham), Christine and Anthony Masson (Knutsford).

The hostesses were Helena Evans (Weaverham) and Gwen White (Davenham) who served Welsh cakes.

Daffodils adorned the tables when members met at The Kilton Inn near Knutsford to celebrate St David's Day recently.

The menu naturally included leek soup with lamb (Welsh, we hope) on the main course Grace, a patriotic hymn, was said by Gwili Lewis (Castle) who later gave the place of birth rollcall.

The majority were born in England, and no one came from Anglesey (The Mother of Wales). One was born overseas. She was Irish and congratulations were extended to her on her homeland's victory that day in the Six Nations Championship rugby match.

Acting secretary Wynne Jones (Cuddington) spoke about the current major project DNA Wales, which investigates the origin of the Welsh people.

Treasurer Anthony Masson (Knutsford), who arranged the event, was thanked, and the evening ended with the singing of popular Welsh melodies and the national anthem.

The society's next meeting is on Monday, March 16, at the Castle Community Church schoolroom from 7.30pm.
