PHOTOGRAPHER, explorer and adventurer Brian White was guest speaker at the recent meeting of Northwich Photographic Society.

He has travelled the world several times to try and capture the fascination that began at the age of 10 when he received an atlas.

Brian was inspired by the Victorian explorers in Africa discovering wilderness, wildlife and people.

His adventure began when he, his brother and five friends travelled across Europe in an old van.

The best place to ‘catch’ people in photography terms is in India; pay your subject, always ask permission first and be prepared for occasionally aggressive refusals.

Sit down and chat with your subject and try to tell their story with your images.

Brian prefers to travel alone or with a single guide. He showed incredible images of a mahout using his elephant to pass up cigarettes purchased from a local store.

He has a talent for wildlife photography and has travelled widely in Africa.

Wonderful close-ups of leopards, cheetahs and silverback gorillas were among his wildlife images.

He shared tips such as: the background is as important as the subject and always sleep with your camera. Courage, is as important as anything in wildlife photography.

Meetings are held on Thursday evenings at the Castle Community Church, Beeston Street, Castle at 8pm. Further details at northwichphotographicsociety.co.uk
