A WARM welcome was extended to members of Lach Dennis WI by president Joy Hoad at their September meeting.

Members gathered at The Woodpecker Hotel for the August meeting and chose culinary delights from a varied menu and enjoyed the wholesome meals that followed.

Speaker for the evening was Cynthia Mills who does voluntary work for the charity ‘Pets and Therapy’ she was accompanied by her dog.

She related how their teams of volunteers take their temperament-assessed therapy support dogs and cats to visit those who would benefit from the stimulus of interaction with an animal, whether they are in hospitals, hospices, residential care homes or in schools.

Cynthia finds her reward in seeing the faces of her contacts ‘light up’ when they meet her dog. The visits bring comfort and happiness to people with a range of disabilities. Joy thanked Cynthia for her interesting talk.

The raffle prizes were won by Glenys Bowers and Joan Reid.

Knutsford Group Meeting will take place on Saturday, November 15 at 2pm at Marthall Village Hall, when Olivia Norbury will talk about Christmas Arrangements.

The next meeting will be held in Lach Dennis Village Hall on Monday, October 13 at 7.30pm when there will be a talk by a representative of Wiltshire Farm Foods.
