THE president welcomed the members to the recent meeting of Winsford WI and received several apologies. She welcomed the speaker, Maureen Williams, a member of Godfrey C Williams & Son Ltd, Sandbach, speciality grocers of quality and distinction, who spoke about the "Five Generations of Cheese".

In 1875, Thomas Williams visited local farms to buy the finest local Cheshire cheeses to sell in the shop. In 1994, the company started to create a range of blended cheeses and has become one of the largest producers of speciality blended cheeses, supplying large retailers and exporting worldwide; lemon crumble and Bowland being popular flavours.

All five generations of the family have judged at some of the largest cheese shows and also have won prizes at other shows.

Not only are the cheeses winners, but the delicatessen provides chutneys, pickles, jams, oils, spices, with the aroma of freshly ground coffee greeting customers.

Cheese wedding cakes are a new addition to the range of foods on offer 'individual cakes made, designed especially for you.’ Maureen provided samples to taste and also cheeses to buy.

After the feast, members were reminded about the CFWI meeting at the Lifestyle Centre on October 7, when Prue Leith will be the speaker. The Vale Royal Group meeting is at the Academy in Winsford on October 15.

The next meeting will be on October 13 at Meadowbank Lodge, Grange Lane at 7.15pm, when the topic will be Ghosts.
