RESIDENT Kath Dunn welcomed members to the June meeting of Comberbach WI and thanked those who had assisted in the WI marquee at the Cheshire Show.

Alison Horton was congratulated for winning the flower arrangement class for the second year running, with her “Special Occasion” display. Miriam Manners and Wendy Green were commended for their entries in the photographic and jewellery classes and the group entry “Fruits of the Earth” also won a commendation.

The visit to the National Arboretum had been thoroughly enjoyable and news of a September trip to the restored Victoria Baths and the Trafford Centre was received with enthusiasm.

The cake stall at the village fete had been very successful with a splendid display of home-made cakes, raising more than £100 for funds.

The Rambling Group’s walk in warm June sunshine was around Arley with lunch at The George and Dragon and seasonal refreshment at the Great Budworth Ice Cream Farm.

After the business of the evening, John and Annette Christophers gave an informative talk entitled “Six Thousand years with clay”. Members were given the opportunity to have a go at making an initialled terracotta disc.

The summer activities continue with a Garden Party and the monthly meeting in August will be a Tasty Evening when members will provide a variety of sweet and savoury dishes for a delicious summer buffet.

Visitors and new members are most welcome to join them on August 11 at 7.30pm.
