PICKMERE Photographic and Heritage Society held its annual competition recently, judged once again by local semi-professional photographer Tom Bebbington, ARPS.

Tom is a popular judge at the club, giving constructive feedback to entrants and commenting on every photograph submitted. He was looking particularly for pin-sharp focus and photographs with no distractions from the subject.

Portrait section: 1. Roy Kirkpatrick - a young woman; 2. Roy Kirkpatrick - soft focus image; 3. Brian Gallimore - black and white photograph. Highly Commended: Joe Robinson - two children at a summer event.

Open section: 1. Chris Tarrant - still life image of bottles; 2. Chris Tarrant - view through an arched doorway; 3. Chris Tarrant - the library in the First World War military hospital exhibition at Dunham Massey. Highly Commended: Ian Parr - unusual shot of stained glass window reflections.

Landscape section: 1. Joe Robinson – crowded Caribbean beach; 2. Roy Kirkpatrick – canal-side houses; 3. John Robinson – Buttermere. Highly Commended: Ian Parr – wintery lane.

Flora and Fauna section: 1. Joe Robinson – coconuts; Roy Kirkpatrick – squirrel (pictured) ; 3. Brian Gallimore – garden shrub Pieris “Forest Flame”. Highly Commended: Roy Kirkpatrick – a bird.

The next meeting is on July 19, 2pm at the Turton Pavilion, Pickmere Lake. Please bring finger food to share if you would like to join us.

The club’s summer competition will be held at the Pickmere Fun Day on August 31.
