HARRY Watson was speaker for the evening at the recent meeting of Hartford WI. He gave an interesting and informative talk on the work of the North West Air Ambulance Service, a voluntary service which relies on contributions from the public. £6million is needed each year and the Government fund the cost of the onboard medical team. Their advantage is being able to land on difficult terrain and get the injured to hospital extremely quickly. The helicopter travels at around 150 mph and improves a patient’s chance of survival. Harry and his wife volunteer for the service and continually raise funds for the much needed service.

Congratulations to all members who entered something in the Cheshire Show. The Art Group had three Commended Awards and Elva Parkes had a first for her watercolour, third prize was awarded for the Nature’s Palette category with Elva getting full marks for her lovely evening bag and Lyndsay Latham getting full marks for her beautiful Lilies of the Valley Lariat and second prize for her beaded Christmas decoration.

The bowls team made it into the finals. Judie Mitchell won the Literacy Award for her poem “Four Seasons” and Margaret Smith won the competition “Something yellow”. June Pye’s garden party raised £148 for WI funds.

Judith Kennedy gave a brief talk about the process of getting a Resolution through and spoke about her own campaign of trying to get one through last year. She got through to the last 10 and is trying to gain support from members for a Resolution to ensure that all mobility scooter users have insurance to include cover in the event of collision with a member of the public or any other injury. Currently there is no legislation for insurance so there is no way of making a claim if someone is hit and injured.

Mavis Green’s garden party is Saturday, July 26. Items are needed for August car boot sale.

The next meeting is August 6 with speaker Jean Finney the “Origins of Nursery Rhymes” Visitors are always welcome. Please contact 01606 75520.
