STUDENTS at St Nicholas Catholic High School are celebrating after collecting a superb set of A-level results on Thursday.

Despite a fall at national level, 7.6 per cent of entries this year were awarded an A* grade and 28.7 per cent of grades were awarded A*/A grades. In total, 59 per cent of the grades awarded were A*/B .

There were some notable individual performances at the school with 17 of the sixth form students gaining three or more A* and A grades.

Three students have secured places at Cambridge with a large number of others earning places at the country’s top universities.

One such student is 18-year-old George Morris from Knutsford who, after achieving two A* grades and one A grade, earned himself a place at the prestigious Cambridge University, where he will study history.

Fellow St Nicholas pupil, Chris McNabb, 18, from Hartford, will now head to the University of Warwick to study maths after achieving A and A* grades in maths, further maths, economics and physics.

Headteacher of St Nicholas, Kieran Kelly, said he was overjoyed at the results achieved by students this year.

He said: “These fantastic results are the consequence of the very hard work of the students themselves and the first class support they receive from their teachers at the school.

“I am absolutely delighted with what has been achieved and I am very proud that St Nicholas Catholic High School continues to demonstrate exactly why it is such an outstanding school.”
