THE Laurels, in Winsford, was decked in balloons, banners and bunting on Saturday for the eagerly awaited 100th birthday of fun-loving resident, Annie Holland.

Music lover Annie, or Nan Holland as she is affectionately known, enjoyed a serenade from crooner Jack Caine, who performed her favourite golden oldies from the 50s and 60s.

After being treated to a luxury buffet, and a slice of centenary cake with a candle for every year of her life, Nan opened gifts and cards from family and friends, who made the trip from Scotland for this very special occasion.

She was also treated to a surprise visit from mayor of Winsford, clr Steve Smith, when she received her very own royal birthday wish.

Only child John, aged 63, was just one of those who spent the day with Nan, sharing tales of her youth and the secrets to a long and healthy life - “No exercise, no vegetables and full fat everything”, was the answer.

Originally from Winnington, Northwich, Nan spent many years working as a wage clerk for ICI.

When she wasn’t working, Nan loved to go clothes shopping and to the theatre in Manchester with her husband Frank, who she married in 1941.

She was also a keen embroiderer, with many of her tapestries hanging proudly in her bedroom at The Laurels.
