COUNCIL staff have been working through the night to make sure residents and businesses are protected from flooding.
Highways and Streetscene staff were mobilised after the River Dane and River Weaver rose significantly after ongoing torrential rain.
Highways engineers have been working with the police to close roads so that no-one is stranded in the floods.
Streetscene officers are providing sandbags to households and businesses in danger of imminent flooding.
Council staff have also been helping at Weaver Court, a retirement home adjacent to the River Weaver, and flood defences appear to be holding.
As a result residents have not had to be evacuated.
Monitoring by council staff includes the local drainage systems which drain into the River Weaver.
The Met Office has reported that in the area approximately 90 mm of rain has fallen since Sunday.
Roads closed in Northwich include Dane Street and the town’s subways and Gorstage Lane, in Weaverham,
Wallerscote Road in Weaverham is closed because of water on the carriageway from adjacent fields.
Also Ainsworth Lane in Crowton is closed after Crowton Brook burst its banks.
Clr Lynn Riley, executive member for community and environment, said: “Our officers are working hard to help people and the travelling public during these horrendous conditions of flooding due to torrential rain.
“At times like these we work closely with the emergency services and so far we have received hundreds of calls from the public.
“Highways and Streetscene officers have been on the scene at dozens of locations, closing roads or handing out sandbags.
“We will continue to react quickly to flooding emergencies and work across the whole of the Borough while this emergency lasts.”
