A MIDDLEWICH family will not let their three-year-old daughter play at a children’s park because they think it is too dangerous.

Parents Richard and Sharon Beevers, of Woodend Close, live just steps away from the play area on George VI Avenue and Moss Drive.

But their daughter Mia has to wait until she visits her pre-school in Brereton, six miles away, to enjoy the facilities there.

Mia’s parents have made several complaints to Cheshire East Council about the state of their park.

Richard, 37, said: “I spoke to a representative from the council two years ago who informed me that the park was scheduled to be refurbished.

“Time has passed and the state of the park is now in severe decline and a dangerous risk to children who use it.

“There are numerous health and safety hazards including metal protruding from the ground, soft landing material becoming unstuck from its base, rusty sharp areas on climbing frames, glass contamination, uneven surfaces and climbing frames with no safety barriers.

“There are metal bins but bags are never placed in them therefore rubbish is just strewn around the floor.

“There is also no seating for parents who are supervising their children on the park.

“Over the eight years we have lived in close proximity to the park, damaged and unsafe equipment has been taken away and never replaced.”

Sharon, 38, added: “Mia always wants to run on there and go and play but I think it’s dangerous.

“It’s just disgusting the way it is. It’s a shambles.”

Clr Keith Bagnall, said that Middlewich Town Council had expressed an interest in taking over the running of the park from the borough council.

He said: “We have been pressing the responsible council for years about the Middlewich play areas to try to get them to up to a reasonable standard.

“In the longer term we at Middlewich Town Council would like to take over management of these facilities as we believe we could manage them better but I cannot give a timeline as yet.”
