FOOTBALL legends Alan Kennedy, Phil Neal and John Durnin joined Barry Donegan's All Star Charity XI football team on Sunday to take on a Alsager Legends team to raise money for little Ruby Owen.

two-year-old Ruby, from Alsager is facing the fight of her young life following her diagnosis with a brain tumour.

Doctors have given her a less than 20% chance of survival and she has already undergone an eight-hour operation to remove most of the tumour.

Unless the youngster responds to treatment her parents may be forced to find £250,000 so she can receive pioneering treatment abroad.

Surgeons managed to remove 95% of the tumour in one prolonged operation, but the remaining five per cent could still be a major problem.

Ruby's dad Martin said: "It was the longest eight and a half hours of my life."

Ruby is now undergoing a course of chemotherapy to treat the remaining tumour, and has returned to Alder Hey Hospital for a scan that will reveal if the treatment is working.

The charity game was well supported and organiser Barry Donegan was pleased with the local support for Ruby.

The total raised was £2,263, which will go to send Ruby off on holiday to Disney world.

It was a great game of football for the All Stars who beat the Niel Gill’s Winsford legends 4-0 nil.

Liverpool legend John Durnin scored for the All Stars along with Dave Dunn and Chris Jackson.

The next charity game will be against Alan Kennedy’s Liverpool legends team at the Victoria Stadium in Northwich in support of the Wingate Centre and St Luke's Hospice.
