THE mother of a little boy, who suffers from a severe skin condition has spoken of her pride after he started school.
Danny Griffiths, five, suffers from a severe form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), which is a condition where the skin, which blisters and breaks at the slightest touch, is as fragile as a butterfly wing.
Danny has been going to pre-school at St Wilfrid’s RC Primary School in Hartford where his mum Claire is a teacher but has now progressed to the primary school.
Claire said he was raring to go.
She said: “He was ready to move up.
“He is very independent and has good days and bad days but he is doing very well.”
Despite having no problems being accepted at school, Claire said people still have a lot to learn about Danny’s condition.
She said: “They are still stopping and staring especially if he is blistered.
“But he has got used to it. It is like water off a duck’s back now.”
EB is a very rare genetic condition and it is estimated that there are currently 5,000 people with it in the UK.
Meanwhile the charity DEBRA funds vital research into the condition and supports families living with it.
Claire added: “We live in hope that a cure will be found.”
