CADET flight sergeant Robert Alford, spends his life helping others.

He is involved in his local community, fundraising, organising events and helping to run stalls for a number of organisations around Sandiway and Cuddington.

Robert also works as a volunteer at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford.

Now the teenager, of Forest Close, Cuddington, has been selected as our Teen of the Month for September.

Robert, 18, was nominated by Flt Lt Jocelyn Twose from the 146 (Northwich) Squadron Air Training Corps, who has know Robert since he was 13.

She said: “Since then I have never ceased to be amazed by his dedication to serving others.

“From the age of 11 he has been a communion server at St John’s Church, Sandiway, as well as being the duty bellringer.

“In addition he has helped the Historic Churches Trust by raising money every year on a sponsored bike ride around the local parish churches and joined in working parties to help maintain and improve Sandiway and Helsby churches.”

Robert, a former student at St Nicholas RC High School has served on his school’s student council and helped at his local Scout and youth church group, helping at jumble sales, running stalls and organising barbecues.

Flt Lt Twose said: “As a cadet Flt Sgt, Robert has worked in the Duke of Edinburgh section and his many hundreds of hours of dedicated service have helped many more young people achieve their own bronze, silver and gold awards and enabled the section to run much more efficiently.

“I cannot praise his efforts enough.”

Robert has won £100, a certificate and t-shirt.

Is there a teenager (13 to 19) you know who is perhaps a young carer or a sportsperson who encourages others?

At the end of the year readers will have the chance to vote for the young person who will become Teenager of the Year and win £500. Robert will be one of those in with a chance of that title.

The competition has been launched by The Rotary Club of Northwich together with the Northwich Guardian.

We are looking for the names of responsible, caring teenagers who have gone the extra mile.

Or is there someone who helps others despite suffering ill health, or even a youth leader – the possibilities are endless.
