OLYMPIC rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave has hailed the silver medal achieved by Matthew Langridge and the Great Britain men’s eight crew as ‘a fantastic result’.
They were pipped by favourites Canada to first place in Beijing.
Speaking to the BBC after the race, Redgrave said: “The Canadians did what they said they could do. We knew they were going to go out fast.
“But a silver medal is still a fantastic result. With the bronze they got last year, they’ve moved up to a silver this time.
“The British were really strong. Maybe in the second 500 metres they just let the Canadians get away from them a little bit more, but they were certainly closing them down in the closing stages.”
