POLICE are calling on motorists to help ensure a tension-free carnival over the bank holiday weekend.

Delays are expected throughout the two-day Crewe Carnival, reaching a peak when roads are closed for the parade on Saturday.

The procession leaves Christ Church car park at 11am and moves along Prince Street before turning left into Chester Street and right into Market Street.

It then travels along Delamere Street, Queensway and Victoria Street before turning right into Hightown at the Limelight Club junction, left into West Street, into Victoria Avenue and arriving at Queens Park at 12.30pm.

Cheshire Police Eastern Area events planning officer, Derek Griffiths, said: “If drivers can avoid the route and surrounding streets during that key time it will prevent unnecessary delays.

“If you have a business commitment or live in the area and there is no alternative, we would ask you to allow extra time for the journey and be patient if you are held up.”

He added: “There could also be some congestion around Queens Park as people turn up for the events. Again we would ask people to be patient and co-operate with the parking arrangements there.

“If drivers show a bit of consideration everyone should have a good time without any unnecessary tension.”
