NATURE lovers in Winsford now have another dedicated spot to kick back and unwind.

Town Park has a new bench thanks its dedicated volunteer group, known as the Friends, which brought the cherished urban green space under its wing back in 2018.

The new bench has been placed in a particularly peaceful area down by its lower pond, making it perfect sport for those who get a kick out of watching the parks aquatic residents going about their business.

Chairman of the Friends of Winsford Town Park, John Malam, said: “This is the third bench funded by the Friends group, and we’ve decided to call it our Family Bench.

“The name was suggested by Danny Weedall, one of our wonderful volunteers, and it joins the Friendship Bench, and Our Bench, and we’re sure it will soon become as popular as they are.”

“With the new season just beginning, the Friends group is keen to encourage more people to come and help us.

“We meet every Wednesday at 10.30am in Town Park and spend a couple of hours doing light gardening work and litter-picking. No experience is necessary, and all tools are provided.”

Winsford town mayor, Ernie Welch, said: “It will be a welcome addition, and a really nice place to sit and collect your thoughts when out enjoying the park and its surrounding.

"The Friends are doing a great job promoting and caring for this cherished community asset.”
