A PRIMARY school celebrating an ‘emphatic turnaround’ after its most recent Ofsted inspection was graced with a visit from its local MP.

Eaton Primary School, near Winsford, was placed in special measures by the schools' watchdog in 2019, but after an inspection in November 2023, jumped two rungs up the ladder to ‘Good’ in all areas.

A report published by inspectors on December 22 noted the unusually rapid progress of moving up two inspection grades in such as short space of time, taking it from the bottom five per cent of schools nationally to the top 20 per cent.

On Friday, February 2, the MP for Eddisbury, Edward Timpson CBE KC, visited the school to offer his personal congratulations on its success.

Mr Timpson was taken on a full tour of the school, and participated in a question-and-answer session with some of the older children.

He later told staff how impressed he was with their political knowledge and well researched questions, then spent time discussing local education issues with the school's senior leadership team.

Eaton’s executive head teacher, Andrew Davies, said: "It was fantastic for the children to spend some time with Edward.

“They had clearly put a lot of thought into their questions and Edward was thorough in his answers, giving the children really clear explanations.

“This was a fantastic support for our learning about democracy in Britain and the children benefited greatly from the experience."

Eaton Primary is a single form entry school, meaning it only has one class in each year group, and a total of 151 pupils.

It is managed by the Sandstone Trust group of academy schools, along with Weaverham and Tarporley High Schools, and Tarvin Primary School.

Shortly after Eaton’s latest Ofsted report was published in December 2023, Edward Timpson said: "It is hugely encouraging to see Eaton Primary School achieve such an emphatic turnaround and to be providing local children with a good education and wider school experience.

"This will give parents and the wider community both a sense of pride and confidence for the future.

Mr Davis added: "The school is looking forward to showcasing the children's work at a forthcoming exhibition on the evenings February 28 and 29, which we hope many of the wider community will be able to attend."
