MOTORISTS have been warned ahead of bridges being swung in and around Northwich.

Drivers are urged to plan accordingly as five bridges over the River Weaver are set to temporarily close to traffic on Thursday (December 7).

The Canal and River Trust will be swinging each of the bridges twice for 'testing purposes', with each swing scheduled to take around 20 to 30 minutes.

This had been scheduled for earlier this week but Cheshire West and Chester councillor Gillian Edwards has confirmed it will now take place today instead.

First up will be Hayhurst Swing Bridge on the A5509 in Northwich, with swings planned for 9.30am and 2.30pm.

Then at 10am, the Town Swing Bridge on the A533 will be swinging, and once again at 12.30pm.

At 10.30am it will be the turn of Winnington Swing Bridge on the A533, swinging again at 1.30pm.

Outside of Northwich, Acton Swing Bridge on the A49 will be swinging at 11.30am and 12.45pm.

And Sutton Swing Bridge on the A56 will be swung at 10am and then again at 2pm.

Nichola Devey, PCSO for Northwich Local Policing Unit, has warned this will cause “high disruption” in the area.
