THE Charlatans front man Tim Burgess has received a prestigious honour as the band get ready to kick off their major UK tour.

For more than 30 years, the alt-rock group have been a force in British music, notching up 13 top 40 studio albums – three of them number ones – alongside 22 top 40 singles, which include four top 10 hits.

From tomorrow, November 24, the band are embarking on an 11-date tour of the country, including gigs in Manchester, on December 2, and Liverpool, on December 5.

And ahead of the tour, lead vocalist Tim, who grew up in Northwich, has been awarded a Fellowship at the Manchester-based Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

The 56-year-old will be made a Fellow, one of the college's most prestigious awards, at a graduation ceremony on December 14.

Posting his reaction on X, formerly Twitter, Tim said: "Such a huge honour to be offered a fellowship by the Royal Northern College of Music - thanks."

The awards are presented to influential figures for their outstanding achievements in music, education, industry leadership and advocacy.

"This year’s honorands provide a wealth of experience, support and inspiration to the College, and I look forward to welcoming them to our Congregation of Awards in December."

While The Charlatans Manchester gig is sold out, tickets are still available for dates in Leeds, Liverpool and Wolverhampton.

The band – which also includes Mark Collins, Martin Blunt and Tony Rogers – have been described as 'one of the most brilliant live acts around, a finely honed musical powerhouse the world adores'.

Their back catalogue includes the instantly recognisable The Only One I Know, Weirdo, Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over, One to Another, How High, North Country Boy and Come Home Baby.
