THE A556 will remain closed for another week.
Cheshire West and Cheshire Council has confirmed that the main road into Northwich will stay shut until at least the end of this week.
The A556 Shurlach Road in Lostock Gralam has been closed to motorists since September 3 following reports of a "large sinkhole".
Excavations and investigations are ongoing as workmen look to repair the drainage collapse.
However, due to health and safety requirements for the "depth of excavations and the complexity of the works", CWAC has stated that it is expected that the road will need to remain closed until at least the end of this week.
"The council is aware that these works are causing significant disruption to the surrounding roads in Northwich but we are working hard to re-open the road as soon as possible," said a CWAC spokesperson.
"Thanks you for your patience and support while these emergency works take place.
"Further updates will be given as soon as more information is available on the expected timescales for the road to be re-open."
