Driver are being warned of long delays on the M6 northbound after a multi-vehicle crash. 

Emergency service were called to the scene between junction 16, Stoke-on-Trent, and junction 17, for Sandbach, at around 5.30pm. 

Police, National Highways, ambulance, and fire officers are in attendance. 

Currently two lanes (one and two) are closed while the incident is being dealt with and there are delays of 20 minutes and two miles of congestion. 

A North West Motorway Police spokesman said: "M6 northbound junctions 16 to 17, multi vehicle collision.

"Lanes one and two affected. Police and National Highways in attendance. There will be delays in the area."

A National Highways spokesperson added: "Two lanes (of four) closed due to a multi-vehicle collision.

"There are two miles of congestion and a 20-minute delay."
