A PETROL station in Northwich was forced to close last night, Monday, after 200 litres of diesel leaked onto the forecourt.

Shortly before 8.55pm, fire crews were called to the petrol station in Manchester Road to help deal with a large fuel spillage.

This is believed to have been caused by a defective cap on a vehicle.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: “Some 200 litres of diesel had spilled on the forecourt of a petrol station.

“The spillage was believed to be due to a defective cap on a vehicle.

“Around 180 litres drained into the interceptor pit and the crew removed the remaining diesel into the pit and covered it all with sand.

“The petrol station remained closed until site managers attended.”
