THE impact of a proposed 58km twin pipeline in Moulton will be discussed at a meeting next month.

Plans for the pipeline, which will transport brine and estuary water between a gas storage compound in Rudheath and the River Mersey, will be on display in the village hall on April 14.

Moulton parish councillor Jo Kershaw said: "What they're proposing is so extreme and the impact on Moulton is so much greater than I thought.

"I had no idea where they were planning to route that pipeline."

Scottish company King Street Energy Ltd wants to dig out 10 underground chambers beneath land at High House Farm, opposite Morrisons, build a gas processing plant above the ground and install the pipes, which will run along the south and east of Moulton.

Clr Kershaw said she was worried they did not include a restoration scheme for when the pipeline was no longer needed.

She is also concerned about the impact on the environment.

"This group is planning to dump the brine in the sea, which will have environmental damage and is a waste of resources," she said.

"There's a market for brine, they just need to wait to sell it."

King Street Energy Ltd has described the plans on its website and states: "Other gas storage projects in the district take water from the local rivers and pass the brine to process users."

The company wants to speed up development to meet Government timelines and says the amount of salt discharged into the sea will be minimal.

The presentation will start at 7pm on April 14, before the parish council meeting at 7.30pm. For more information about King Street Energy Ltd visit nplestates.com/NPLGroup/KingStreetEnergy/tabid/213/Default.
