BUS stop improvement plans sparked lively debate for councillors in Davenham and Moulton.

Cheshire County Council aims to update a total of 13 stops in the two villages but some councillors are concerned about the effects this will have on shops and residents.

Clr Brian Robinson, from Davenham Parish Council, said: "The documentation covers about a dozen bus stops and each one has 25m of bus parking space marked - this amounts to almost quarter of a mile right in the village.

"These are an illegal parking zone, apart from for buses, 24 hours a day."

He added: "In Jack Lane and London Road if anyone wants to pull up and visit someone there would be vast swathes of land where you can't stop.

"The overall effect of having half a mile of road you can't park on at all is outrageous and anything but convenient."

Chairman Clr Arthur Wood, also a Moulton parish councillor, said: "These plans are there to enable disabled people to use public transport, which is quite an important issue.

"It does mean extra lengths to the bus lay-bys to allow the bus to pull in correctly and flush to the kerb.

"The only place where this is causing any serious issues in the one in the centre of the village and the two near Green Lane, which is a heavily trafficked area of the village.

"Out of the village it's not really restricting parking spaces."

He added: "Parking is a particular problem in the centre of the village but we can't really solve it because there's nowhere to provide parking."
