MAGICAL memories are being created, thanks to an enterprising mum.

Former teacher Lisa Curtis Lacey, from Hartford, has come up with a novel way for children to go ‘camping’ with friends - in the comfort of their own home.

The mum-of-two only launched her family-run business, The Spectacular Sleepover Company, in July and has already been inundated with bookings.

The 41-year-old has designed tents so children can have friends to stay over in individual ‘little dens’.

It has been a labour of love as Lisa has hand made covers for 32 tents in four different themes and sewn duvet covers, pillows and bunting.

“The idea came from my cousin in Australia where it’s a huge thing,” said Lisa, who has two sons Oliver, nine and Elliott, 11, plus four step sons aged seven to 19.

“I did a lot of research and decided to make everything myself. It was a lot of hard work and very time consuming.”

Her nan and mum taught her how to use a sewing machine when she was younger.

“I trialled it with my sons and their friends and they absolutely loved it,” said Lisa.

“My friend hosted it for me. I thought they were going to be boisterous but the boys were as good as gold.

“My sons enjoyed it so much they wouldn’t sleep in their own beds for two weeks!”

Attention to detail is key for Lisa as she wants to create the ultimate indoor glamping experience.

Each tent comes with a thick foam mattress, themed duvet and pillow, fairy lights, a standing tray, co-ordinated bunting, lantern with a LED tealight and a personal chalkboard name tag.

A sleepover kit with a bottle of water, sweets, toothbrush and sleep mask and a bag of fun activities are also included.

“I was a primary school teacher for 18 years so I understand what makes children tick,” said Lisa. “I wanted to continue doing something with children but in a different role. This fits in with family life.

“It is so rewarding to see children enjoying themselves.”

Tents can hired as a pair for £80, up to a maximum of eight for £250.

Breakfast boxes and movie night snack trays can be provided at an extra charge.

“I wanted to make it as easy and hassle free as possible for parents,” added Lisa. “I’m passionate about giving children memorable experiences and making childhood as magical as possible.

“I’d love to be able to franchise it out but I’m a terrible perfectionist. I like to do everything a certain way and would find it difficult to give up that control.”
