ONE Grange student has gone the extra mile in his out-of-school activities, winning a number of British and World Transplant Games medals during his time at the school.

Cameron McGregor-Ogden, who gained two As and a B in maths, further maths and physics, will start a civil engineering course at Leeds in September.

A keen ski racer before his leukaemia diagnosis in 2014, Cameron underwent a bone marrow transplant as part of his treatment.

He said: "Back in 2014 I had a bone marrow transplant to cure my leukaemia and about a year after I started feeling myself again and got back into my sports.

"I picked up badminton and in 2016 I started doing the British Transplant Games.

"In my first competition I got bronze at the British games and selected for the worlds, in Malaga in 2017. I got gold there for badminton which I was very happy with."

After building his strength back up, Cameron resumed skiing and took part in the World Transplant Winter Games in Anzere, Switzerland earlier this year.

He went on to win four gold medals.

Meanwhile, his studies continued alongside his sporting endeavours, and his results earned him a place at his first choice university.

"I was very happy this morning when I checked track and I saw I had got in – after that I didn’t really care what results I got!

"I have been basically trying to keep busy and forget about it, but last night was tough. As soon as I saw I got in I was so happy."
