A COUPLE living at Lostock Lodge Care Home in Lostock Gralam have celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Residents Beryl and Edward Forsyth enjoyed their platinum wedding anniversary among family and friends on July 10.
Beryl, 98, and Edward, 89, met in Liverpool while both working for a builders’ merchant in 1946, a year after Edward left the Army after serving his country in the Second World War.
Edward worked as technical representative and Beryl a shorthand typist. They married at the Methodist Church in Mossley Hill where they settled and raised their two children Ian and Pamela.
In 1970, Edward’s work took them to the West Midlands as regional manager for Master Builders Regional Direct, where they lived until he retired in 1998.
Edward was a member of the Royal Engineers Field Company and the day the Second World War broke in 1939 he was deployed to north Africa and Italy to reset landmines.
He sustained many war wounds and finished his army career in Allied HQ Casterta, Italy. Edward has been involved with the Masonry for 70 years.
The Care Home organised a buffet for all residents, followed by a live performance from an Elvis tribute singer. The Lady Mayoress came and Edward and Beryl received a card from Her Majesty the Queen.
Manager Lianne Webb said: “All of the team were absolutely delighted to share their 70th anniversary with Beryl and Edward, and help make the day special.”
