RUNNERS who first laced up their shoes 14 months ago as part of a Moulton couch to 5k group are preparing to take on one of the world’s most famous challenges.

Moulton resident Alexandra Ehlen and running partner Angela Groom, from Winsford, will run the London Marathon on April 22 having started their journeys last February.

Joining a couch to 5k group has led them onto a host of challenges, culminating in a ‘once in a lifetime’ 26-mile race.

Alex said: “I went along wanting to get fit – I’m a real chocoholic and saw the post on Facebook about the new group.

“We progressed with that and then both went on to train a bit more, working towards a 10k.

“From there we have done the Conway half marathon and thought that we would give this a go.

“We have done 20 miles in training and will get up to 22 before tapering off.”

Both runners have progressed quickly with the help of Moulton coach Alex Cartney, who is behind the group.

While Angela had a spot in last year’s marathon deferred and will be supporting paediatric first aid charity Millie’s Trust, Alex will be raising money for the British Red Cross.

She said: “We can’t wait for the big day.

“We’re nervous and excited, but the atmosphere will be amazing and it’s a once in a lifetime experience for us.”

The pair take on the Liverpool half marathon this weekend, and have another five 13.1-mile races lined up for this year.
