A WEAVERHAM school has been recognised by the government for the support it provides children in the Northwich area.

The Department for Education has approved The Russett School, in Weaverham, as a National Support School (NSS) with the executive headteacher designated a National Leader of Education (NLE).

Catherine Lewis, executive headteacher, said: “We are very proud that the academy and its staff have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to children and young people with additional and Special Educational needs in our community.”

NLEs are outstanding headteachers who, together with the staff in their national support school, use their skills and experience to support schools in challenging circumstances.

In addition to leading their own schools, NLEs work to increase the leadership capacity of other schools to help raise standards.

Schools that apply for the status must demonstrate the work you are already doing to support schools in the target areas and, if successful, how they will expand that work to provide even more expertise to improve schools and children’s lives.

Rated outstanding in their most recent Ofsted inspection, the school has commended their support network of staff and parents that helped in achieving this status.

Catherine added: “Our ongoing success is due to the continued outstanding contribution from our talented and highly dedicated support staff and teachers. This is enhanced by the extensive support and commitment from our parents and carers.”
