A NORTHWICH woman will spend her 21st birthday jumping out of a plane in aid of Alzheimer's Society, after conquering her fear of heights.

Rebecca Holland, 20, aims to raise more than £500 by parachuting from 10,000 feet in aid of the charity this summer at Perranporth Airfield, Cornwall.

She said: “I have decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society because it’s a charity close to home for me as my grandma is living with dementia.

“Because it’s a degenerative condition, we have to make the most of every day. I know dementia affects the lives of many families and I wanted to do something to help.

“Following some research I did for a presentation, as part of my apprenticeship, it opened my eyes to all the amazing things people can do to raise money for this charity, inspiring me to sign up.

“Previously, being a member of the Northwich Air Cadets, I’ve overcome a real fear of heights by taking part in lots of activities such as rock climbing and abseiling. However, I only ever felt safe knowing I was attached to a harness, so this will be a new challenge for me.

“Rather than spending money on going out for my 21st, I thought I’d do something I can be proud of.

“By raising money for such an amazing charity, I know I will make a difference to people’s lives so I hope that people will get behind me and support this worthy cause by donating.

“It’s great to think that I will be raising funds to help support people living with dementia now and to fund research to one day find a cure.”

Alzheimer's Society events coordinator Chloe Beevers welcomed Rebecca’s decision to help raise money for the charity with the daring skydive on June 23.

She said: “It’s wonderful that Rebecca is giving her time to support Alzheimer’s Society – what an amazing gesture to raise funds in this way to mark her 21st birthday.

“Dementia devastates lives, but it won’t win. Until the day we find a cure we will be here for anyone affected by the condition, wherever they are and whatever they’re going through. We need more people like Rebecca to join us now and unite against dementia.”
