TWO green-fingered Moulton residents have set up a gardeners group.

Jo Kershaw and Hilary Belshaw, both 60-years-old, formed MAD Gardeners Cheshire for fellow garden enthusiasts from Moulton and Davenham.

The aim of the group is to swap plants, cuttings and share knowledge and tips through a monthly meeting and practical sessions.

Hilary said: “This is a way for people to share interests and even for complete beginners to come to us for advice if they want it.

“Primarily it will be to post pictures online but we are going to hold our monthly meetings to discuss new ideas and practical sessions to put ideas into practice.

“We thought with the new developments around both villages there will be a large number of people coming to the area who might want a bit of help making their garden more colourful.

“The villages are very close so it made sense to include both, plus that’s what makes us MAD, it has a funny ring to it.

“The same goes for those who are more elderly around here that may not have the time to spare. So we’ve got a lot of ideas in the pipeline about how we can help the community.”

Since MAD Gardeners Cheshire was formed on October 10, more than 20 residents have registered their interest.

Jo said: “I first started gardening more than 30 years ago when I thought I’d just give it a try. My mum said to put some annuals in and I remember thinking, what are they?

“Maybe some people are thinking similarly to me and don’t really know where to start, but me and Hilary think the more the merrier.

The first group meeting will be on Monday, October 23 in The Lion Village Pub and it will be to exchange initial ideas and to discuss steps forward.
