A JAZZ musician is performing in Davenham following his album launch.

Tom Millar, 29, is a pianist and composer and will play in the village theatre on Thursday, September 28.

The London-based musician will play alongside Misha Mullov-Abbado, Alex Munk and Dave Storey who are all bandleaders in their own right.

Tom releases his first album Unnatural Events on September 15 is looking forward to performing in Davenham for the first time.

He said: “I’ve never been to the village before but I’m really looking forward to it as there seems to be quite a good jazz scene at the theatre.

“This is the first time I’ve worked on my own project but I’m looking forward to playing with the rest of the quartet.

“I was looking for musicians who would be supportive and versatile and with a deep understanding of what I expect to bring my compositions to life.

“They came with such a clear awareness of when to suggest ideas for improving or changing the music I brought.

“I’m particularly proud of ‘woad’. It has 11 beats in a bar and I would describe it as a battle piece.

“Jazz in its nature is about being creative so every show is going to be a little bit different. The genre is also in a very good place at the moment so it’s an exciting time.”

Tom read music at King’s College, Cambridge before he graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a master’s degree in jazz piano.

Unnatural Events was recording with funding from an Emerging Excellence Award, Jazz Services’ Recording Support Scheme and a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

He is planning his second album.
