EXPERIMENTAL mosaic making lessons have started in Davenham.

Due to the popularity of the village mosaic project, a scheme will run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 1pm and 5pm for residents who would like a relaxed approach than traditional lessons.

It is an attempt to accommodate residents who cannot commit to a set day or time and will initially run for two months.

Jan Johnson, from Mosaic Opia, said: “When we last did the sessions we had a lot of people in Davenham who couldn’t commit due to work or family constraints.

“This is designed to be a solution so people can turn up at a time that suits and stay for as long as they like between 1pm and 5pm.

“Wherever we’ve had these lessons there has been 100 per cent positive feedback from participants which is something we’re really proud of.

“People always say how therapeutic mosaic making is. So if you’re looking for something new, want to make new friends or just want to try it and see what it’s like then come along.”

Workspace, tools and equipment will be provided as well as advice from a collective group of mosaicists who will help people progress their techniques.

Jan took up mosaic making in 2010 and has since gained a master in Mosaico diploma from one of the world’s best mosaic schools in Venice.

She was the figurehead behind the Davenham mosaic project after she came to the theatre committee with a plan that came to fruition in 2015 following an Arts Council grant.

The village mosaic was completed in September 2016.

The sessions are £7.50 per hour and will take place in Vine Cottage in Church Street.
