POLICE are tracing the driver of a van seen near a serious crash in Wincham which led to a pensioner being air-lifted to hospital.

At 2pm today, July 25, officers were called to reports of a collision involving two motorbikes in Pickmere Lane.

The riders of both bikes have been taken to hospital, including a 74-year-old man from Warrington, who was flown by air ambulance to Wythenshawe Hospital. His condition is currently described as serious.

The rider of the second bike, a 28-year-old man from Northwich, was also taken to Wythenshawe and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Pickmere Lane has been closed in both directions following the crash while accident investigation work took place.

Now, officers want to talk to the driver of a Ford Transit Connect van seen close to the scene of the crash.

Insp Carlos Brunes said: “Investigations into the collision are currently in their early stages and I would urge anyone with any information to call us on 101.

“As part of the investigation I’m specifically keen to speak to the driver of silver van which was seen in the area at the time of the collision as we believe they may hold vital information in relation to the investigation.

“The van is believed to have been 16 plate Ford Transit Connect van and is not believes to have had any markings on it.”

Anyone with information in relation to the collision is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 446 of July 25.
