NORTHWICH families are set for a packed weekend of entertainment.

The Northwich Community Fun Weekend, which is organised by Northwich Town Council, will take place on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30, at Vickersway Park.

The event will be open from 10am to 5pm on both days.

Cllr Janet Myerscough-Illidge, mayor of Northwich, is hoping the town’s residents show their usual support to the annual event.

“The community weekend is one of the highlights of the year for the whole family,” she said.

“It brings people together in the community to enjoy themselves and have fun in such lovely, high quality surroundings and experience activities for all ages.

“Everyone is welcome and I look forward to seeing you there.”

There will be a host of entertainment over the course of the two days, including a fun fair, donkey rides, tractor and trailer rides, face painting, glitter tattoo and mini dribblers.

There will also be BBQ, cake stand, Brio Leisure and Bear, Northwich Entertainers Troupe dancing, inflatables, Kier Recycling, RNLI, Cheshire Police and NCT Baby Change and Creeping Toad.

Youngsters will also be able to get up close with Stockley Farm animals and Birds of Prey.

A number of Cheshire musicians will also perform live sets during the course of the weekend.

These include Sam Lyon, The Microtones, Chris Atherton, Andrew Warner, Chris Tavener and Zara Okoro.

On Saturday, there will be a range of craft and charity stalls, including hand-made purses and crafts, fairy doors and gifts, Tails Animal Charity, St Luke’s Hospice, wood-turned gifts, Marie Curie, Rudheath and Witton Together, craft activities, rail journeys, splat messy play, bows and sparkles, definitely different, gingerbread decorating and hair feather braiding.

As in previous years, a lot of activities are free, with a small charge for other activities.

All of the facilities at the park such as crazy golf, tennis and the outdoor gym will also be available.

Cllr Myerscough-Illidge has been involved with the weekend in previous years, but is looking forward to enjoying the popular event as mayor.

“I am feeling very excited,” she said. “This is my first community weekend as mayor.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people. I want to be there to get to know the people of Northwich.

"I’m really looking forward to it.”

She also revealed this year the council has also invited mayors from neighbouring towns to come and enjoy the fun.

“This is also the first year we have invited other mayors in the area to joining us for the day, and I look forward to enjoying their company,” she said.
