A CASTING call is being sent to female actors interested in a new Davenham play.

Auditions are being held on Sunday, July 16 for women aged between their 20s and 60s for a play called Motherhood .

The play focuses on relationships between mother and daughter.

It will be set in an alternating timeline, with each scene changing from 1950s Britain to the present day.

Themes in the play include how conventions of being a mum and a woman change between post-war Britain and modern society.

Denise Barry, organiser of Motherhood and Davenham Players member, said: “This is a production that I think everybody can relate to.

“It’s an all-female cast which is positive in its own right.

“It tells the story of everyday issues that we all have to contend with.”

The play was written by professional storyteller Felicity Good who is a mother-of-two and also Denise’s daughter-in-law.

Felicity said: “I’ve spent a lot of time with the group so when I sat down to write the play I felt like I wanted to give something for the incredible women who’ve dedicated themselves to the Players.

“The ideas all came from a workshop involving these people and their own experiences so it really is their story.

“I’ve never written something and then handed it over artistically before.

“To watch how Motherhood changes and unfolds is going to be really exciting.”

She added: “The village deserves this wonderful group to continue for as long as possible.”

The play will take stage in the village’s Church Street theatre.
