SAINSBURY’s has recalled some of its sandwich fillers after a food poisoning bug was found inside.

The supermarket’s own-brand Deli Fillers were recalled after Listeria monocytogenes was detected in some of the products.

The food bug can cause flu-like symptoms, stomach cramps, sickness and diarrhoea.

It can be serious for frail elderly people, young babies, pregnant mothers and their unborn child, and people with weak immune systems.

In some cases, the infection can cause serious complications such as meningitis.

The 13 pulled products include both sizes of the cheese and onion, coronation chicken, egg mayo and tuna and sweetcorn fillers.

Sainsbury’s 220g tubs of chicken and sweetcorn, chicken tikka, egg and bacon, seafood cocktail, and it’s Be Good To Yourself tuna and sweetcorn fillers were also affected.

All have a use by date of July 4, 2017. Those who have bought the products are urged to return them and get a refund.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: "Routine testing carried out by our supplier has found Listeria in a small number of pre-packaged sandwich fillers in our Deli range.

“As a precautionary measure we’re recalling them.

“We’re asking customers not to eat these products and return them to their nearest Sainsbury’s for a full refund. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
