SCARECROW competition organiser Alexandra Ehlen is hoping to have a record number of entries for this year’s contest.

This is the fourth year Alexandra has run the Moulton competition, and this year’s theme is sport.

Scarecrows have to be up by Saturday, June 24 and will remain up until at least Sunday, July 9.

Scarecrow trail maps will be available from the local shop, pubs and clubs on Saturday, June 24.

Photographs of each scarecrow will be taken which will be on display at the Crow Fair along with a ballot box for people to vote for their favourite scarecrow.

“More than 400 votes were cast last year, and the scarecrow polling station was busy all day,” said Alexandra, who lives in Moulton.

“The votes will be counted around 4.30pm and the results will be announced just before Crowfest at 6pm.

“The top 10 will be awarded rosettes, the top three will receive prize money and the winner will receive a trophy.

“The competition grows each year - it is so nice to see the scarecrows around the village, and even nicer to see people walking round the village with trail maps.

“There is always a real buzz around the village when they are on display and locals and visitors alike chat about which they have seen and which are their favourites.

“I am hoping for the highest number of entries yet this year, and the events committee and myself just really want people to have fun building the scarecrows.”

The school children and pre-school children also view the photographs in the week running up to Crow Fair and vote on their favourites.

Moulton Primary School presents Alexandra with a sealed envelope just before Crow Fair, and the results of 'The Children's Vote' are also announced just before Crowfest.

Rosettes are presented to the top three as voted for by the children, and a trophy is presented to the winner by two pupils from Moulton Primary School.

Maps will be available at McColls and The Travellers Rest in Whitlow Lane, The Lion and The British Legion in Main Road and The Verdin Club in Church Street.
