YOUNG artists are being urged to get their creative juices flowing and draw some of the many scenic spots in Hartford for the Civic Society’s 2018 calendar.

Hartford Civic Society is holding a competition for young people of Hartford who are either a resident of the village or a pupil of a Hartford school or college.

The winning entries will feature on the 2018 Hartford Calendar, which will be on sale at various outlets in the village and at the Christmas Fayre.

The Civic Society will choose three winners from each of the age categories – up to six, seven to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18 – and an overall winner from each age group will win a cash prize.

Heather Pinchien, Hartford Civic Society member, said: “We are after drawings of Hartford, you don’t have to be an amazing artist, we would just like you to send your drawings to us on the address below, on A4 or A5 white paper or card, along with this we need you name and a contact email or phone number and to tell us where your drawing is of.

“Alternatively they can be dropped off at Hartford Post Office or scanned in and sent via email.

“There are many lovely places in Hartford, bridges, churches, Marshall’s Arm, the river to name just a few and there are also more obscure places.

“You don’t have to sit out and draw, you can copy from a picture or just from memory.”

Alongside this competition the Civic Society is also asking young people to design a front cover for the calendar, which should include the words ‘Hartford 2018’.

Heather said: “The previous two years' calendars have sold out well before Christmas with quite a few people sending them abroad, so your artwork could be on the wall of a house in USA, Canada, Germany or Australia.

“They are just a few places we know they were sent to.”

Deadline for entries in August 20, 2017. Winners will be notified within the first two weeks of September.
