TWO men were arrested following a joint operation targeting off licences in Northwich.

The operation took place on Friday by officers from Northwich Local Police Unit (LPU), who were supported by immigration officers and members of Cheshire West and Chester’s licensing team.

A 24-year-old Iraqi man from Kubus shop in Victoria Road and a 31-year-old Pakistani man from the One Stop in Station Road were arrested by immigration officers and are being investigated in relation to immigration offences.

The offenders face a fine if the offences are proven.

During the operation, which covered a number of licences premises, tobacco and cigarettes were seized.

Other licensing violations are being investigated by CWAC for potential food hygiene breaches.

Chief Insp Simon Meegan, from Northwich LPU, said: “This was a successful operation with local officers working with our partners to target licensing offences.

“We also identified immigration offences, trading standards and food hygiene issues which are being investigated by Cheshire West and Chester Council and Immigration Enforcement.”
