FORMER Lostock Gralam FC players are being invited to take a trip down memory lane.
The invitation comes from Roy Horth, who played for the club in the mid-1960s, and is looking to organise a reunion of his team-mates from that period.
Roy, 73, from Great Sankey, was born in Wincham, and lived in Lostock Gralam when he played for the club in the Mid Cheshire League between 1964 and 1966, when he was in his early 20s.
Roy was a right full back, and part of the side which won two trophies in the same week in the 64/65 season, the Northwich and District FA Challenge Cup and Cheshire FA Amateur Cup, beating Middlewich on each occasion.
“We had a great team and a great social group, and it would be nice to meet up again after all these years,” said Roy.
“The Slow and Easy pub at Lostock Gralam would be an ideal place for the reunion as the ground was behind the pub.
“It would be great if people could bring pictures of the teams, programmes and photographs from the period to the reunion.”
Roy was nicknamed ‘Jimmy Armfield’ because of the similarity of his playing style to the former England captain.
“I got quite a few write-ups in the Northwich Guardian, and played until I was 38 with local clubs," he said.
"I had a trial with Bolton, and never got booked.”
Roy’s team mates were Peter Foxley, Phil Moores, Maurice Buckley, Alan Coppack, Colin Bowyer, Dennis Gleave, David Hough, Doug Gallimore, Tommy Boyle and Fred Astles.
Roy’s children Debbie and Steven live in Moulton and Northwich respectively.
