A MUSICAL theatre group is calling out to the men of the town to saddle up for its latest production.

Vale Royal Musical Theatre Group are preparing to perform Calamity Jane over four nights, from June 21 to 24.

However, the group need more men to join them for their latest production.

Annabel Fox, who is playing the role of Calamity Jane, said: “We need men to partner the women in the ball scenes.

“There is a big saloon bar and it would be full of men in those days and a number of women, but ours is just full of women.

“All we really want them to be able to be to be happy to go on stage. They don’t have to have done it before."

The group, which is based in Winsford, currently has around twenty six women and eight men.

They rehearse on Mondays at the Salvation Army Headquarters in Weaver Street, Winsford, from 7.30pm.

A number of parts are available for men, speaking and non-speaking.

No experience is required, just an enthusiasm to get on stage and have fun.

Annabel said: “It’s a good laugh. It’s a good crowd of people and a great atmosphere there. We are a friendly bunch of people and it’s all age groups. Everybody mixes.

“We have people ages in their 20s up to their late 60s, it’s people of all spectrums. It’s nice.

“And you never know, one of these men might find the love of their life.”

The group’s latest production is based off the 1953 film Calamity Jane, starring Doris Day and Howard Keel.

“It is the old fashioned romance, cowboy Western with music,” Annabel said.

It will be Annabel ‘s first production with Vale Royal Musical Theatre.

She said: “I auditioned for the part of Calamity Jane and got the part. I have been doing it for years, I’ve done professional stuff when I was younger and have been doing theatre for a long time.”
