DOUBLE yellow lines are being called for in a bid to improve safety at junctions with a main road in Rudheath.

The call comes from Rudheath Parish Council in a bid to address parking problems in the village.

People living near Gadbrook Park Business Park are becoming increasingly frustrated by problems they say are caused by business park staff.

They say a lack of parking spaces at Gadbrook Park has seen an increasing number of workers parking on residential roads alongside the business park.

Residents say they are unable to park outside their homes, parked cars cause problems for residents using their drives, and cars are parking near junctions.

Cheshire West and Chester Council is looking at the issue, and asked the parish council to seek the views of residents.

The council held a public meeting on the issue at Rudheath Leisure Centre on January 30, which was attended by about 50 residents.

Residents’ concerns were taken into account by councillors when they agreed on Monday to call for double yellow lines in Shurlach Road and East Avenue, near their junctions with Gadbrook Road.

The request is to go to Cheshire West and Chester Council, which is also to be asked to look at the sequence of the traffic lights from Gadbrook Road onto the A556 to ease traffic gridlock in Gadbrook Road.

“We agreed to ask for the double yellow lines at the Gadbrook Road ends of Shurlach Road and East Avenue because they are the worst ones in terms of people parking near the junction,” said parish council chairman Alison Gerrard.

“Parking near the junctions makes it difficult for drivers joining Gadbrook Road, and a number of cars have been ticketed.

“We also chose these roads because the Gadbrook Road end of Shurlach Road is across from Rudheath Primary Academy, and East Avenue is on a bus route.

“Cheshire West wanted us to consult with residents on the parking issue and go back to them with suggestions.”
