PRIME Minister Theresa May is to be asked to visit the Northwich area to see for herself the proposed route of HS2.

The invitation is to be made by Cheshire West councillor Mark Stocks, who organised a STOP HS2 public meeting on Saturday at Lach Dennis Village Hall, which was attended by 150 people.

Public consultations on the proposed Phase 2b of the route end on March 9, and help with submitting comments was offered at the meeting, which was organised to update residents on the consultation process.

The meeting was aimed at residents from Lostock Green, Lostock Gralam and Lach Dennis, and was supported by Mid Cheshire Against HS2.

“I am writing to the Prime Minister to ask her if she would consider visiting the area to look at the proposed route,” said Cllr Stocks.

“The route is of such great significance to Northwich and the surrounding countryside, and the Prime Minister would benefit from seeing it herself.”

Graham Dellow from Mid Cheshire Against HS2 chaired Saturday’s meeting, and Cllr Stocks and Mid Cheshire Against HS2 member Ros Todhunter spoke to the audience.

“It was a very worthwhile meeting and many previously unanswered residents’ questions were answered,” said Graham.

“More than £460 in donations were received, including £140, which was the profit from the coffee morning which ran alongside the STOP HS2 meeting.”

The audience was reminded of the importance of responding to the HS2 Ltd consultations which close on March 9.

HS2 Ltd is hosting an information event at Winsford Academy on Saturday, from 10am to 5pm.
