WEAVERHAM children proudly performed at one of the largest combined school choirs in the world.

Weaverham Forest School pupils joined thousands of others in Manchester as part of Young Voices 2017.

Weaverham Forest School choir, which consists of 30 year four, five and six children, attended the concert, which was part of a series, at the Manchester Arena on Wednesday, February 8.

The pupils have been preparing for the big day since September.

Hannah Brake, who led the choir along with Carol Pennycook, said: “Getting the hang of 13 songs and dance moves to go with them has not been easy but the children have been committed and worked hard every step of the way.

“I’m sure parents have enjoyed hearing the singing round the house. When the day came, the children were buzzing with excitement. They sang their way from Weaverham to Manchester.

“We arrived at the arena just in time to find our seats and join the other 8,000 children in a huge mass rehearsal lead by the fantastic Young Voices team and conductor.”

Children were joined by professional singers and dancers on the day, including the urban striders dance group, Tabby Callaghan, Sharlene Hector and Weaverham Forest’s favourites, The Beatbox Collective.

The children then gave it their all for the evening performance.

Ms Brake said: “The evening performance was incredible, the children sang and danced their hearts out.

“They made the school, the teachers and their parents very proud. The atmosphere around the arena was amazing, lighting, the band and the young voices team created an amazing concert.

“We witnessed some very impressive air guitars from the children and when the song stronger together came up I was blown away by the fantastic singing of our choir.

“The children were thrilled to be involved and were already asking about next year during the day.”

Ms Brake said the feedback from the event has been ‘fantastic’ and the school now hopes to make the trip an annual event.

She said: “All involved had an incredible time and we hope to make the Young Voices Concerts an annual event on the Weaverham Forest calendar.”
